Cumin is also good for our health. It’s not only used for making rice; we also use it as a spice in many savory dishes.

Jeera Rice Recipe Using Regular Rice or Basmati – Step by Step

A step-by-step guide to making Jeera Rice using two methods, complete with pictures and recipes. Rice recipes play a significant role in most regional Indian cuisines. These can range from plain rice to rice served with spicy dishes. One such simple and popular recipe is Jeera Rice, which is made with long-grain rice and cumin seeds. However, using long-grain rice is not mandatory; you can also make Jeera Rice with the rice you use at home. However, it might take a little longer if you use regular rice.

In this recipe post, I’ve shared two easy methods for making Jeera Rice, although this popular Indian rice dish can be made in many other ways. My personal favorite of the two methods is making Jeera Rice in a pressure cooker, as it’s quick, hassle-free, and ideal for everyday cooking. This method uses very little ghee, follows the traditional steaming method, and works perfectly with basmati rice, resulting in a light, fluffy, and fragrant dish.

The second method is a more economical recipe for Jeera Rice, which is especially useful if you have leftover rice at home. It can be prepared in just a few minutes and is perfect for busy days. Both methods yield delicious Jeera Rice that pairs wonderfully with Indian curries, dals, and other classic Indian dishes.

The method for making Jeera Rice is quite simple, but a few helpful tips can make a big difference. Firstly, this classic Indian dish looks and smells much more appealing when made with long-grain basmati rice, as the grains remain separate and fluffy.

Secondly, if you are cooking Jeera Rice in a pressure cooker, use ghee or cooking oil/olive oil generously. Using enough fat ensures that the rice cooks evenly and prevents it from becoming sticky or mushy.

Finally, Jeera Rice pairs very well with a variety of North Indian curries and gravies. Some of the best combinations include Paneer Butter Masala, Chicken Curry, Palak Paneer, and Shahi Paneer. These rich and creamy dishes perfectly complement the light, aromatic flavor of Jeera Rice, making it ideal for both everyday meals and special occasions.
